Artist's Statement 

With Calendar Project I seek to chronicle significant events as they happen. At first, painting the number of each day seemed important; now the overall mood of the time takes precedent for me. I've stuck to these parameters: to start and finish a 5' x 6' painting of a "calendar" representing the month in which it's made, and to paint every day. The idea is to make a portrait of each month, to capture its character. Calendar Project is my way of processing recent assaults on democracy, humanity and the environment. I've made a good deal of blatantly political art, but for this project I wanted to weave social/political events into a season of color and abstraction. The project began in January 2022 and is ongoing.
