Social Distancing School: Iterations of Isolations

This photo exhibition is a reflection on the early days of the COVID19: the quarantining, social distancing and emptiness that surrounded the early days of Coronavirus in New York State. While this illustrates the isolation and loneliness of the early pandemic, it was in fact a very welcome collaborative effort. After more than a month in quarantine, it was liberating to do photography within the curated rooms of interior designer and artist Tom Taylor at the Ockawamick Central School in Claverack, NY. The school, abandoned in 1999 was purchased by Eleanor Ambos in 2014. Eleanor, also an interior designer, was a collector of abandoned buildings and with Tom Taylor transmogrified neglected spaces into objet d’art. In these months my circle was small, but thankfully it included model and gallerist Nina Scheff, who was kind enough to be my photo pandemic muse as well as Tom Taylor and Charlotta Janssen (my full-time muse), who makes an impromptu appearance in her pink Converse All-Stars. 

This show is dedicated to the memory of Eleanor Ambos.
