Title: School of Distancing: Iterations of Isolation
Date: April 17, 2021
These images were made last year during the height of pandemic lockdown, at the very beginning of May when life was very confusing and insular. Artist and designer Tom Taylor asked if I might photograph some classrooms at the Old Ockawamick school that he managed and curated for wonderful Eleanor Ambos. Fascinated by this abandoned school and Tom’s work on it, I originally planned to photograph myself with a tripod, as I had been quarantining with myself. My partner Charlotta was another option as a model; however, she was busy trying to save her restaurant in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, so she was incredibly busy. I mentioned the School to the gallerist of the Hudson Milliner Art Salon, Nina Scheff and she was more than keen to go visit the school. It was then that I knew that I had a model for my rumination on isolation amidst the pandemic.
